Planning your visit
Getting to Paralia Koloumpo means embracing the wild side of Santorini. Far from the tourist crowds, the beach is best accessed by car or scooter, winding along rural lanes that trace vineyards and sleepy villages. While public transport reaches nearby Baxedes, most visitors opt for a rental car to keep bags, snacks, and beach gear at hand. Unlike packed resort beaches, Koloumpo remains relatively quiet, even in high season, but the lack of shade and services calls for thoughtful preparation. No need for tickets or reservations here—just a willingness to walk a short, rocky path down to the shore.
- Best time to visit: Late morning or early evening in May, June, or September for fewer crowds and mild heat. Avoid mid-afternoon in peak summer, as there’s little shade.
- How to get there: Drive from Oia or Fira (about 15–20 minutes). The nearest parking sits a few hundred meters from the beach, followed by a gentle downhill walk.
- Accessibility: The pebbly descent proves challenging for strollers or visitors with limited mobility; children and active adults manage easily, but seniors may wish to skip.
- Average visit duration: 1.5–3 hours, depending on appetite for sunbathing, swimming, or exploring.
